Window blinds are really great ways to decorate your windows to give you privacy and help insulate your home. Windows are the most significant place in your home for energy transfer-heat coming in or going out, depending on the season-so by putting in window blinds, you are actually helping to cut your energy bills. Window blinds can be made from many materials-wood, vinyl, aluminum, and plastic. They come in all sorts of colors, as well. Most people go with white because it's the ultimate neutral color, and some of the window blinds can be cut to fit the window at home. Yesterday I saw some really cool window shades at the local warehouse club store, and they were really attractive and super easy to install. They were inexpensive, as well, at $29 each. They promised that they would cut energy bills, but had really no data to back that up, so I passed. I think I will get some wood window blinds that have more physical mass to keep out the summer heat and the winter cold, instead.
Ikea offers some of the most affordable window blinds. How could a window shades blog not mention Ikea and their great deals?
I basically got bored of the conventional white vinyl blinds that came with my apartment. I once read thatdressing your windows can give your entire room a new makeover and completely different atmosphere. I decided to spice things up a bit and look for Roman window blinds made of a strong white canvas.
Ikea has been known for its affordable home decor. I decided to check Ikea and I found the exact product that I was looking for! I purchased these Roman window blinds instantly. I prefer their Roman blinds for their simple construction and of course, cheap price.
And whatever source provided me with the advice about window dressing was absolutely correct. Upon installing the Roman window blinds, my room has gone from ordinary apartment room to relaxing space with a completely new ambiance (of course, the candles I purchased at Ikea seemed to help).
Are you looking for something other than Roman window blinds? Ikea has got everything from attractive Roman blinds to Venetian wood blinds. Their blinds range between $6.99 to $29.99.
Most people think that window blinds don't really mean anything else other than letting light in or out of your room. The truth is, windows are the gateways to the outside world, and often it can make a huge difference on your mood and environment when you select the right window blinds.
Just the other day, I started re-organizing stuff in my life and realized that a bunch of stuff I had bought from places like IKEA, CostPlus World Market and many others were just lying around because I never figured out how to incorporate them into my apartment. Well, that was the day - and I started with my window blinds in the bedroom.
We headed over to IKEA and bought some roman window blinds to go over these wooden beaded curtains I had from before, and I can tell you the bedroom now feels like some expensive resort in Hawaii rather than the standard "apartment" feel most of these places have.
So, if you want to make your place unique and a pleasure to live in - it doesn't cost a lot. Just redecorate!
If you are thinking about upgrading your window coverings for the hot summer months, think about getting wood blinds for your windows. Wood blinds will keep the summer heat coming in your windows at bay, and lower your air conditioning bills. Not only will your home be more comfortable this summer, you will also save a bundle on heating costs in the winter. Wood blinds have a good R factor, which is the way that the EPA measures energy efficiency. They absorb heat, and effectively block drafts, so that you improve the insulating value of your windows.Windows are notoriously energy inefficient, and while they serve an absolutely necessary purpose of ventilation and light, the energy loss coming from them can be significant, especially if they are single-paned and old. Wood blinds are so attractive, and easy to keep clean, so if you have energy savings high on your list for home improvement, consider checking out wooden window blinds for your home. They will last for years, improve the value of your home, and save you energy dollars, all at the same time.
We got our new window blinds for the house, and we just love them. We ordered them online, and they fit the windows perfectly. They were super easy to install, and we have high hopes that the window blinds will keep some of the heat out of the rooms where the summer heat is the worst, our two bedrooms that face west. Wood blinds work very well in hot climates like this because the sun takes such a toll on fabrics; in fact, it does not take many years for direct sun to start rotting the linings of draperies. Before we ordered the window blinds, we hopped on a window shades blog to get some input from others who live in a sunny climate to see how the wood holds up to the beating sunshine, and everyone said that wood blinds do just fine in the hot desert sun. These blinds will drop our air conditioning bills some because they absorb so much of the heat, and block the light pretty effectively. So we are looking for a cooler house this summer, and hope we recover the cost of the blinds over this air conditioning season.
This spring I am getting new wood blinds for the house because the window blinds I have now are those thing aluminum ones, and with three active cats, they are getting pretty bent, as the cats play in the window sills with the blind cords or try to get at the birds outdoors. Wood blinds are so much sturdier and attractive. It is so easy to upgrade your blinds, even by ordering them on the Internet. You simply measure your window size by following the precise instructions they give, and double checking both your measurements and how you enter them into the online ordering form.
Window blinds can be a way to insulate your home, as well. Wood blinds have a pretty good R value, which is their energy efficiency rating, so if you live in an extremely hot climate or a cold one, they will keep the house warmer or cooler, depending on what you need. While it's very hard to add insulation to your walls, you can increase your energy efficiency through your windows, where a surprising amount of energy is lost. So if you want new window coverings, consider wood blinds, which are durable and attractive.

After having lots of family around for this holiday season I have come to the conclusion that my house and furnishings need some updating. Most all of my window blinds have been hanging on these windows for years and even though styles have not drastically changed there is still a need for a little revamping. Personally I like room darkening window blinds so that I can open them to let the day light in but when they are closed the atmosphere is quiet and subdued. Now the decision is whether to go with a different style of window blinds or change completely to wood blinds or shutters, the look of which I enjoy. Some changes would not be too difficult but making a style change to shutters may require a little more time and money. Getting online and checking out a window shades blog would probably help with ideas about what kinds of changes to make. Lots of people are online and willing to share their experience and suggestions with readers. Hopefully the decision to upgrade the window blinds to something a little more modern will not leave me with a dent in my pocketbook that is not easy to fill.
If you've ever been to the hotter states, you've seen some absolutely horrible window blinds hanging in windows. Why? Well the constant sunshine weathers and rots the fabric and materials much faster than it does in the cooler states. Some savvy people solve this problem by installing shutters, even electronic shutters that can open and close at various programmed times of day. In this way, the shutters protect the more fragile nature of the fabrics and materials of the window blinds. Wood blinds can be somewhat of a solution, but wood finishes also take a beating in constant sunshine. But, if you live in Nevada, California, Arizona, etc. you don't need to have your home be a claim to shame. (Yes, it's expensive to replace the window blinds in your home, but perhaps it's less expensive than you thought.) New offerings of window blinds on the Internet make it more affordable than ever to replace your window blinds more often, and there's an attractive selection of fabrics and materials to choose from. With the new competition on the Internet for your window blinds dollar, you may just be able to upgrade more often, and no longer need to keep your claim to shame.

Even though the housing market has been in turmoil for a few months now, there are still many people that are either building new homes or renovating the one that they currently live in. Once the process begins it is difficult to stop at just one change, for example when changing window blinds it is nice to change the wall paper or paint to match your new coverings. Window blinds, wood blinds or shutters are hung according to the style and size of the room that they are to appear in. Making a decision about what kind of window blinds would best be suited to your room is always a huge venture. There are numerous styles and colors to choose from. Some people are switching from traditional window blinds to newer wood blinds or even shutters to add a bit of coastal flavor to their homes. Getting online and signing onto a window shades blog may put you in touch with people who are willing to share their ideas and creativity when it comes to finding the best window blinds for your needs.
Window blinds are an attractive way to decorate your home, and can increase the energy efficiency of your windows, as well, especially if they are made of wood. Wood blinds have more mass than aluminum blinds and help keep the cold out or the heat in, depending on the time of year. Getting wood blinds from your local home improvement store or having them custom made is a way to spruce up your decorating. Wood blinds, especially, last a long time, and unlike the aluminum mini blinds, do not get damaged from rambunctious kids or pets. My mini blinds need replacing because my cats think that they are really fun to play with, and they have little bends and kinks in them from the cats crashing into the windows to get a better look at the birds outside. The new ones will be wood blinds.
Wood blinds also help create a good appearance for your home from the outside, and that is important if you are thinking of selling your home, or at least entertaining offers on it. If budget is a constraint, consider the faux wood blinds that are not as appealing as the real wood blinds, but will save you money.

I just saw a nice website called Shutters.com. They feature many kinds of shutters. For instance, they have both louver and panel shutters! Some websites I have seen only did one or the other. This site does both. They also have what they call Bahama Shutters. These are for shade, and storm protection. They have some great pictures of how you can make your home look so pretty with these things. I have never seen anything like it. The Bahama shutters come in wood, fiberglass, and aluminum. They look really easy to clean, too. I wonder if they are. You have to request a quote from the company and that always means lots of cash. It looks like they have a bunch of nice colors to choose from, too.
I have been considering shutters for my home for awhile and these look beautiful. How I can find someone to install them for me? The guy I usually use for stuff like this wants me to buy from his suppliers. These are much nicer than others I have seen.
